Spatial Appraisal
“How do I determine how much space I need and ensure that it is used most effectively to achieve the optimum layout and maximise productivity?”
The spatial appraisal will provide the information required to define the accurate instruction on an acquisition or purchase of a property. It will remove the uncertainty of the most significant decision on a relocation – how much space?
An excess or shortfall will have long-term commercial impacts on the balance sheet. The appraisal will take into account a wide range of operational factors that will be considered in the context of the project life cycle for the proposed new building.
Appraisal activities
- Interview director/management staff levels to establish the requirements of the project
- Undertake surveys to review data on workstations, storage requirements together with a wide range of issues relating to productivity and work life
- Determine departmental group adjacencies
- Prepare a design brief report for a 2-dimensional space plan
The outcome of the spatial appraisal will be presented in a report format. When a preferred location is identified and the design brief has been accepted and signed off, the 2-dimensional space planning exercise will commence. This will provide a visual indication of the suitability of properties being considered for occupancy.
